Going above and beyond to help our RAF Family

One-Heart-Autumn-2018-front-cover

Welcome to your special Welfare edition of One Heart (PDF 2.4MB). Inside you'll meet some of the dedicated team looking after the health and happiness of our RAF Family.

Also, see how your support means we can go above and beyond to help members of our RAF Family going through a difficult time.

Helping Andy get back on his feet

In this edition, meet Welfare Benefits Executive, Jennifer. Jennifer's job is to make sure that people are getting everything they are entitled to from the government, such as pension credit and disability benefits.

Jennifer helped 59-year-old veteran Andy, whose life took a turn for the worse when his marriage broke down and he ended up homeless.

Andy's council reassessed his case and not only increased his benefits, they also back-paid him 4 years' benefits previously denied!

Giving Comfort and Dignity

Mike is one of our Housing Executives and ensures that our RAF Family members have a safe, comfortable place to live – either by buying and then renting homes to people who need them, or adapting and repairing homes to meet individual needs.

Mike was honoured to have helped RAF veteran John Llewellyn, who was terminally ill with cancer. The team acted quickly to install a stairlift within a week of finding out about John’s diagnosis to make sure he could stay in his home as long as possible.

Mike was also able to pull a few strings with our friends at Biggin Hill to make John's last wish to sit in a Spitfire come true.
